Ballinamore municipal district has heard that some residents with mobility issues in the area are struggling to put their bins out for collection on routes where the bin lorry may be too large to navigate.
Cllr Enda McGloin requested that a representative from Barna Waste attend a Ballinamore Municipal District or full Council meeting at the earliest opportunity to discuss how their services can be improved for customers in the constituency.
He hopes this would also allow local councillors, as public representatives, to engage with Barna Waste management and explore ways to improve their services.
It was agreed that the Director of Services, Vincent Dwyer, that he would have a discussion with Barna Waste to see if they would be able to come meet members to discuss any issues.
Barna Waste have a permit from Leitrim County Council and are otherwise not obliged to answer any questions.
“I raised a couple of routes in Kilclare and the issue of where people with problems around mobility found it difficult to get their bins out, and may have to walk three quarters of a kilometre with their wheelie bin to get it at the top of the road,” Cllr McGloin explained.
“It would be an opportunity to directly engage with them and put the various routes to them that they might change.
Cllr Brendan Barry also spoke about issues he has heard from residents regarding bin collection.
“We agreed to park those particular queries and raise them individually when we have the meeting,” Cllr McGloin said.
