Leitrim County Council expands search for emergency accommodation providers

Leitrim County Council are accepting Expression of Interest forms from guest accommodation providers with a deadline of October 25.

Leitrim County Council expands search for emergency accommodation providers

Leitrim County Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from guest accommodation owners who wish to have their facilities and rooms added to the Council’s list of emergency accommodations.

This emergency accommodation is intended for families or individuals in need of short to medium term housing.

Leitrim County Council will nominate clients and pay the agreed fee directly to the accommodation provider as required.

Family and single rooms may be needed to address the increasing demand for emergency accommodation.

Guest accommodation providers will be required to provide catering and laundry services for their clients.

This comes as Leitrim County Council seeks to expand the number of suppliers of temporary accommodation across the county, as there is a vast shortage of emergency accommodation.

There is currently one emergency accommodation provider in County Leitrim, based in Ballinamore.

The Council is dependent on a small number of private commercial facilities where temporary emergency accommodation can be provided.

The shortage of emergency accommodation has compelled families and individuals in need to relocate far from their home areas, hindering their ability to maintain employment and separating children from their schools.

Expression of Interest forms should include details of the type of accommodation available, details of catering and laundry facilities, cost of accommodation and compliance with fire and building regulations.

Forms can be emailed to housing@leitrimcoco.ie with the subject line ‘Expression of Interest – Provision of Emergency Accommodation.’

Leitrim County Council may also contact accommodation providers directly to source accommodation and negotiate rates, regardless of whether those providers have responded to the Expression of Interest.

The closing date for receipt of Expression of Interest forms is Friday, October 25.
