Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District have been informed that 15 bus stops in the district are being improved as part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, funded by the National Transport Authority.

This encompasses seven towns in the area.

Cllr Paddy Farrell put forward a motion at October’s meeting calling on Eamon Ryan TD to provide funding to facilitate the upgrade of all bus stops on local link routes in the Carrick MD to enable buses pull in off the road safely, so cars can continue to travel freely.

He also asked for a feasibility study to be funded to to add further bus stops in built up population hubs along Local Link routes.

Cllr McGowan, Cllr Flynn and Cllr Reynolds supported the motion.

“It’s a very worthwhile motion,” commented Cllr McGowan. “In fairness to the Local Link they are doing a lot of work in different parts of the county.”

“There were 12 motions form the six councillors and three of them either indirectly or directly refer to Local Link and that just goes to show the importance of the work that they’re doing,” said Cllr Flynn.

A reply from Economic Development explained that 15 bus stops are being upgraded across seven towns. These towns are: Leitrim Village, Carrick-on-Shannon, Drumsna, Dromod, Roosky, Jamestown and Mohill.

All towns will receive upgrades to two bus stops each, except for Dromod, which will have upgrades to three bus stops.
