Reliable water supply for Leitrim town on the horizon as Uisce Éireann to begin upgrades

Uisce Éireann crews will be arriving in Manorhamilton next week to deliver the promise of a more reliable water supply by Spring of 2025.

1.2 kilometres of old cast iron water mains from Lurganboy to Shanvaus will be replaced and upgraded between now and Spring 2025 as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

According to Uisce Éireann, these works will not only give local homes and businesses more confidence in their supply, but the new pipework will put an end to leakage of treated water into the ground.

Crews will be working along the L-2136 Lurganboy (Church of Ireland junction) to Shanvaus/Pollboy (N16 Junction).

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.

To progress these important works, a road closure will be in place along the L-4135 from Wednesday, November 6  until January 31, 2025.

Uisce Éireann assures that local and emergency traffic will be maintained to properties along the route at all times.

Uisce Éireann can confirm that the L-4135 will be reopened during the Christmas holiday period, with all traffic management removed during this time.

Farrans is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be complete by the end of Spring 2025.

Uisce Éireann’s Patricia Lowry is looking forward to delivering the project for customers in Manorhamilton.

“This work will bring a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply and improved water quality.

“It will also help us achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25 percent.

“The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018, when the leakage rate stood at 46 percent,” Ms Lowry said.

The Uisce Éireann Customer Contact Centre, open 24/7 on freephone 1800 278 278, is available to answer any queries. Further information is available on www.water.ie.
