Call for increased traffic calming measures on Leitrim road

Cllr James Gilmartin requested that Manorhamilton Municipal District enhance traffic calming measures along the R280 from Kinlough to Manorhamilton.

Speeding incidents lead to request for redeploying speed van on Leitrim’s R280

The Manorhamilton Municipal District has been informed that Leitrim County Council has requested An Garda Síochána to redeploy a speed camera van on the R280, from Kinlough towards Manorhamilton.

This follows a motion made by Cllr James Gilmartin at October’s meeting of Manorhamilton M.D., where he requested the municipal district install traffic calming measures at this location.

“Issues with speeding and reckless overtaking are regular and need to be addressed before there is serious injury or worse, fatalities.

“With access to two housing estates, the football pitch and community centre on this short stretch of road there is an accident waiting to happen and urgent action is required,” Cllr Gilmartin urged.

A reply from the Roads department stated that Low Cost Safety measures are already in place on this approach to Kinlough including gateway signs and driver feedback signs, but they have requested An Garda Síochána to redeploy a Go Safe van to the area.
