The Leitrim Volunteer Centre has opened nominations for the 2024 Leitrim Volunteer Awards, celebrating local volunteers who make a difference in their communities. This year’s awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 22, at The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon, with special guest Michael Harding, a well-known writer, podcaster, and commentator, set to join the event.

The awards honour outstanding volunteer contributions in categories such as Diversity, Social Inclusion, Sustainability, Young Volunteer of the Year, and Outstanding Group of the Year. Each category reflects the diverse and impactful contributions of volunteers throughout County Leitrim.

“This event is our way of giving back to the volunteers who give so much of themselves to Leitrim,” said Josephine Stroker, Manager of the Leitrim Volunteer Centre. “These awards are not just about recognizing the hard work, but also about celebrating the sense of community and pride that volunteers bring to every project and initiative they support.”

Stroker encouraged community members to submit nominations, adding, “If anyone would like to nominate a volunteer, they can choose from a range of categories, including Diversity, Social Inclusion, Sustainability, Young Volunteer of the Year, and Outstanding Group of the Year. Our special guest Michael Harding will help us celebrate the contributions of these amazing individuals.”

Adjudication of the nominations will be carried out by a sub-committee of the Board of the Leitrim Volunteer Centre and winners will be notified in advance of the event.

Closing date for nominations is Thursday 1st November at 5.00pm.
