The 13th annual Leitrim Sports Star Awards are set to take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Landmark Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Organised by the Leitrim Sports Partnership, the event celebrates the remarkable efforts and achievements of individuals, sports clubs, teams, schools, and community volunteers who have made significant contributions to sports and recreation in the county.
This year's awards categories cover a range of contributions.
‘Volunteer of the Year’ will honour someone whose dedication and hard work support the running of clubs, events and facilities.
‘School Sports Initiative of the Year,’ a new category, will celebrate the work of a sporting school, both primary and secondary.
‘Junior Sports Individual’ and ‘Juvenile Team of the Year’ focus on the flourishing area of youth sports, which often receive the most nominations.
‘Senior Sports Individual’ and ‘Senior Team of the Year’ awards acknowledge athletes and teams for their outstanding performance and overall contribution to sport.
‘Coach of the Year’ will acknowledge a coach who has profoundly impacted their team or athletes.
‘Club of the Year’ recognises the outstanding achievements of a sports club for its overall excellence, success in fostering growth and diversity.
‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ is designed for those who have overcome challenges or achieved remarkable feats.
‘Hall of Fame’ honours a lifetime of contribution to sport, with past winners including Padraig Griffin, Packie McGarty, Maeve Quinn, and last year’s recipient, Declan Darcy.
The most anticipated prize, Leitrim Sports Star of the Year, will be selected from nominees across all categories.
“The awards aim to recognise not just people operating at the top level of their sport in the county but also to acknowledge those who provide vital supports to their clubs, team and communities,” said Mick O’Rourke, Leitrim Sports Partnership Chairperson.
Nominations close on December 18, 2024. To nominate any individual, school, club or team for one of the awards, complete a nomination form available through www.leitrimsports.ie.
Nominations will be shortlisted by a panel of judges and the winners will be announced on the night of the awards.
Each winner will receive a handcrafted award presented by sponsors.
