Meet the Sligo-Leitrim candidates: Edel McSharry

Sligo Fianna Fáil councillor Edel McSharry has outlined her ambitions for Leitrim ahead of Friday's General Election.

Meet the Sligo-Leitrim candidates: Edel McSharry

Edel McSharry, Fianna Fáil, Sligo-Leitrim-South Donegal

I am proud to run as a candidate for Fianna Fail representing the people of Sligo, Leitrim and South Donegal. With my grandfather (Paddy McSharry) hailing from Leitrim, the county has always been close to my heart.

My life’s experience, as an educator, Acting President, Head of Nursing at ATU Angela’s, ICU nurse, social activist and mother of five, have given me the skills and fuelled my commitment and determination to make a difference to the quality of people’s lives in our constituency.

Sligo/Leitrim is a neglected region and has suffered from a severe lack of investment. We need positive discrimination towards this constituency in terms of access infrastructure, health, and education.

If elected, I will work to ensure the new school build at Scoil Mhuire (Carrick on Shannon), urgently needed road upgrades for Leitrim, a Carrick on Shannon bypass, commonsense policies for rural planning and a sensible approach to forestry. As well as supports for small business, suckler family farms, and traditional industries.

My promise is, if elected to serve in Dáil Éireann on your behalf, to be a strong voice for Leitrim and unstoppable in my efforts to bring prosperity to our region.
