A 23-year-old Leitrim man named Seamus (Shambo) Byrne tragically passed away following a car accident on November 21, it has been confirmed.

The single-vehicle collision occurred on a local road at Derryherk between Kinlough and Garrison shortly before 7:00am.

There have been 161 fatalities on Irish roads this year.

Seamus Byrne was pronounced deceased at the scene, and his sister aged in her 40s sustained serious injuries and was transported to Sligo University Hospital.

A technical examination of the scene has been conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Seamus is deeply missed by his loving parents, Seamus and Catherine; his brothers, Denis, Thomas, and Luke; his sisters, Catherine, Siobhan, Veronica, and Naoise; as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and wide circle of friends.

Heartfelt tributes have poured in across social media in remembrance of the young man.

“Rest easily baby brother, you were a big soft, gentle giant and our hearts are forever broken. I love you millions and life will never be the same again. We are totally devastated. Please pray for my sister in hospital,” his sister Catherine wrote on Facebook.

A friend wrote: “RIP Shambo. Pleasure to have known you and share some good memories, sending all my love to your family and friends during this hard time, rest easy bud x.”

“Rest in peace Shambo. You’ll be missed by many,” another post read.

A funeral mass in Seamus’ honour took place on Tuesday, November 26 at St Aidan’s Church Kinlough, followed by burial in St Aidan’s Cemetery.
