Dowra road
Manorhamilton municipal district heard calls to replace a wall in Drumkeeran due to significant cracks and water seepage.
Cllr Mary Bohan proposed the wall on Dowra road be replaced, and that proper drainage be installed.
“The footpath forever has water flowing on it and it’s very dangerous. It goes down the whole way opposite the church,” Cllr Bohan said.
“It really needs a new wall with drainage done.”
Engineer Eric Gilroy told Cllr Bohan that a drain was installed when the wall was originally constructed. However, over time when additional works were carried out and the ground behind the wall built up, it may have caused the drain to be blocked in a few locations.
“We’ll look to see if we can alleviate that but if we need a new wall and it drains it is significant funding,” he said.
Cllr Fallon seconded Cllr Bohan’s motion, noting that the water on the footpath becomes very dangerous in the winter time.
A reply from the Roads department stated: “Investigations will be carried out to explore if small-scale remedial works can be implemented to alleviate drainage issues at this location; there is no funding available for significant works of this nature.”
