Leitrim County Council are to liaise with Waterways Ireland to explore the possibility of installing toilets at Drumsna harbour.

In January, Brian Treacy, Regional Manager of Waterways Ireland, delivered a presentation at a full meeting of Leitrim County Council outlining the progress of the Shannon-Erne plan.

Following the presentation, Cllr Sean McGowan raised the issue of a toilet block for Drumsna.

At February’s meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district, Cllr Des Guckian called for the Council to contact Mr Treacy and move forward with installing the toilets at Drumsna Harbour.

Cllr Guckian stressed the need for the facilities, explaining that boaters arriving at the harbour have no access to toilets.

“Mr Treacy indicated that it would be possible to install basic toilets and I think that’s all that is needed,” Cllr Guckian said.

Cllr McGowan added that the addition of toilets would be a valuable resource, helping to maintain cruiser traffic in and around Drumsna.

All councillors at Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district expressed full support for the motion and Waterways Ireland will be contacted to explore the next steps.
