An application for funding to install a fishing stand may be considered following the completion of the new Hartley Bridge.
Cllr Paddy Farrell proposed a motion calling on the Council to engage with Inland Fisheries and Shannon Regional Fisheries Board to install a fishing stand with clear access on the Leitrim side of the bridge.
“There’s a lot of anglers that come to town to fish there and a lot of locals. It’s a very popular location for fishing,” Cllr Farrell said.
A reply from Economic Development explained that the Hartley Bridge Scheme is expected to go to tender before the end of Q1 this year, pending Department approval, with an anticipated construction contact duration of 18 months.
“Following the completion of this scheme, an application for ORIS funding to install fishing stands can be considered,” the reply concluded.
Cllr Farrell expressed hope that the project could come to fruition, with Cllr McGowan supporting the motion, commenting, “Fishing is growing in popularity which is great to see.”
Cllr Farrell also proposed a separate motion regarding Hartley, requesting that the Council’s District Engineer examine the fence on the left hand side from Hartley Junction towards St. Mary’s Cemetery, and carry out repairs where necessary.
In response, the Roads department clarified, “Leitrim County Council do not own any fencing along this section of public road.”
