Leitrim ranks among the cheapest counties in Ireland for car insurance, as new data shows big regional price gaps across the country.
Leitrim motorists are paying the lowest car insurance premiums in the country, according to the latest figures from Chill Insurance.
As of March 2025, the average annual premium in Leitrim stands at €596, placing the county as the most affordable in the country
This is in stark contrast to Longford, which tops the list as the most expensive county for car insurance, with an average premium of €1,042.
The figures also showed that Cork (€644), Waterford (€643), and Kilkenny (€629) have some of the lowest insurance rates in the country.
Across the provinces, Connacht boasts the lowest average premium at €689, while Ulster is the most expensive at €796.
Leitrim's rates have remained relatively stable, despite national trends indicating a 9% rise in average car insurance premiums since 2023, according to the Central Bank’s National Claims Information Database.
Factors contributing to Leitrim's lower premiums may include reduced traffic volumes, fewer claims, and a higher proportion of experienced drivers.
