North Leitrim Women’s Centre and Scéal Heritage are leading the Leitrim Women Through Time project, aiming to connect with women who worked in local factories.
As part of Heritage Week, they are hosting a special gathering for women who worked in factories of all sizes and types across County Leitrim, from the 1940s through to the 2000s. The event will offer an opportunity to share stories, reflect on shared experiences, and contribute to a lasting record of rural women’s history.
The event will take place on Tuesday, August 19 at 7pm in Ballinamore County Library. It will be a relaxed evening of conversation, memory-sharing, and connection among former factory workers, with tea and cake served.
Everyone is warmly welcome, while booking is not required, it would be appreciated to assist with catering arrangements.

Women may have worked in factories such as General Plastics or Shannon Industries in Carrick-on-Shannon, in Ballinamore or Newtowngore Textiles, in Trend Knitwear or Laird’s Preserves in Drumshanbo, or in many other local workplaces.
The project also welcomes home-based factory workers, including those who knitted for Cyril Cullen or Sarah McGloin.
Leitrim Women Through Time will also present their unique Pop-Up Leitrim Women’s Museum at the Drumkeeran Old Fair Day on Saturday, August 16, from 12pm to 3:30pm in the Old Courthouse building.
