Áras an Chontae, Carrick-on-Shannon
Leitrim councillors are soon to meet with Uisce Éireann to address ongoing water supply issues that have been particularly affecting the south of the county, impacting many households and businesses.
Uisce Éireann will attend Áras an Chontae in Carrick-on-Shannon on Monday, September 8 to meet with councillors and hold a workshop with elected members.
The challenges facing both water and wastewater infrastructure across the Ballinamore Municipal District and south Leitrim were raised at the last meeting of the Ballinamore MD.
During the upcoming workshop, they will discuss key water services challenges for the next five years; how councillors can engage with and input into Uisce Éireann’s activities and plans; and receive updates on investment and operations focused on Leitrim.
Just this month, several significant leaks occurred in the Cloone and Aghavas area, affecting customers in Carrigallen, Newtowngore, Corrawallen, and surrounding areas.

Another leak also impacted customers in Coraleehan, Bornacoola, Cornageeha, and Killyvehy.
Customers along the Keshcarrigan–Fenagh–Ballinamore line continue to face persistent water outages and supply shortages, with advice from Uisce Éireann repeatedly urging conservation of water.
Cllr Gary Prior noted in a statement online that councillors have been asked to submit questions in advance by Thursday, August 28.
“Over the past few weeks, many households and businesses in South Leitrim have faced serious water disruptions. This is causing real frustration and hardship for families and local employers,” said Cllr Prior.
He also confirmed that he will be putting forward a motion at the next meeting of Leitrim County Council, due to take place on September 1, calling for urgent investment to upgrade the troubled line between Keshcarrigan and the Ballinamore reservoir, with a particular focus on the pipe network.
