A ‘kind and considerate’ Leitrim midwife has been fondly remembered following her passing on Saturday, September 20.

Margaret Philbin, from Cnocbofin, Dromod and formerly from Harold’s Cross, passed away peacefully at her home after a long illness bravely borne.

Ms Philbin will be sadly missed by her loving husband Robby Earle, sister Trish Dunleavy, sisters-in-law Paula and Orla, brothers-in-law Colm, Roy and Richie, niece Sarah, nephews Ciaran, Mark, Matthew, David and Brian, grand-niece Bowie, grand-nephew Ronan, her work colleagues in the Rotunda Maternity Hospital, all her beloved pets, her relatives, neighbours, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Mike and Peggy.

Her kind demeanor has been remembered both at work and beyond. “I had the pleasure of working with Margaret in all my years in the Hospital and she was such a ray of sunshine. She was kind and considerate at all times and that lovely smile and twinkle in her eyes made you feel comfortable in all situations,” one condolence read.

Margaret reposed in St Joseph’s Church in Cloonturk on Tuesday, September 23, and a cremation service took place on Wednesday, September 24 at 2.15pm in the Garden Chapel at Mount Jerome Crematorium in Dublin.

Donations, if desired, can be made to Cancer Research, Madra, or Dogs Trust.

Margaret has been remembered for her ‘exceptional’ service in the Rotunda Hospital, where she worked as a midwife. “She was an exceptional woman and midwife. She made such a contribution to the Rotunda, particularly in her support of the Perinatal Mental Health Service. Her door was always open. After she retired, she continued to support the women and babies of the Rotunda through the Board of the Rotunda Foundation where her in-depth knowledge and understanding were put to good use,” a condolence read.

It is clear that Margaret changed and helped the lives of many throughout her career. “A total lady whose smile and twinkle in the eye lit up the room. A consummate professional, wise counsel and so supportive to us all in the Rotunda. May she enjoy eternal peace,” another said.
