Halloween takes over the Dock this October

From SFX scars and Irish horror to a Halloween-night rave

Halloween takes over the Dock this October

The Dock Arts Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon is getting into the spirit of Samhain this October with a packed programme of Halloween-themed events, from creepy makeup workshops and chilling Irish-language cinema to a late-night DJ takeover. Whether you’re after scares, stories or a night on the dance floor, there’s something for everyone to enjoy as the spooky season descends on the Shannon.

On Saturday, 18 October, professional SFX artist Olivia Louise Curto will lead a hands-on special effects makeup workshop from 11am to 2pm (€10, ages 18+). Participants will learn how to create realistic bruises, scars and eerie skin textures, watch a live demonstration, and make their own DIY scar wax to take home. The workshop is ideal for horror enthusiasts, costume party-goers, or anyone curious about the art behind the scares.

The Halloween programme continues on Thursday, 30 October, with a screening of Fréwaka at 8pm (€8 / €5 concession, rated 15A). This Irish-language psychological horror follows Shoo, a home care worker who begins looking after a woman obsessed with Na Sidhe — sinister entities from Irish folklore. Set in a remote Irish-speaking village, the film blends superstition, paranoia and buried trauma into a chilling story written and directed by Aislinn Clarke.

Festivities culminate on Friday, 31 October, with a high-energy Halloween night hosted by the TILT DJ Collective. Back for their second gig at The Dock, the collective will take over the decks from 8pm until late (€5, fancy dress optional), spinning a mix of techno, hardgroove, garage and breaks. Whether you arrive in costume or simply ready to dance, it promises to be a spooktacular end to the celebrations.

Tickets for all events are available now at www.thedock.ie or by calling the Box Office on 071 965 0828.
