Two Leitrim councillors have called on locals to back Heather Humphreys for President of Ireland in the election set to take place this Friday (October, 24)

“It is vital that Ireland elects a President with experience, good judgement and the ability to bring people together, that is why I am seeking support from the electorate of Co Leitrim to vote for Heather Humphreys”, stated Cllr Enda Mc Gloin.

He continued: “Over the course of the last 10 years, especially as a Minister, I have been impressed by her ability to listen and to understand and in particular, her ability to recognise the challenges that many communities face in their ambition to develop their facilitieslike tourist attractions, playgrounds, community centres and working hubs, and then to ensure communities and counties with smaller populations got the necessary government supports”.

He said: “Heather listened to the many public representatives and local government executives who highlighted the need for government financial intervention to support so many important projects in Leitrim like the greenways, blueways, enterprise hubs, playgrounds, Carrick Campus, The Food Hub, Drumshanbo, access to the sea at Tullaghan, town enhancements across many of our local towns resulting in millions of investment and vitally mush more per capita than many other larger much more resourced counties, Heather recognised the need to support smaller and less populated places like Leitrim”.

Cllr Enda Stenson also showed his support for Humphreys stating: Heather Humphries did a huge amount for Co Leitrim; she listened to public representatives like me and understood that smaller counties and rural communities needed funding much more than bigger and better resourced counties, a person like Heather who listens to people and understands them has, in my view, the attributes to be an excellent president. I believe Heather Humphreys would represent Ireland proudly and ably on the international stage, and provide support for government in promoting Ireland and the many companies that export internationally”, concluded Cllr Stenson.
