Concerns were raised about a damaged wall at a junction in Leitrim, creating a hazard where vehicles could accidentally go off the edge.
At a meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District, Cllr Eddie Mitchell requested that damage be assessed to a retaining wall at the side of the L2217 link road, also known as Croppy Lane, where it connects to the N16.
His motion explained that an old concrete block retaining wall has been in place for over 40 years. It retains both the main road and the link road (Croppy Lane), with a sudden drop of about one metre on the southern and eastern sides of the junction.

The wall has been damaged, and the rear wheels of cars have dropped off the roadway when turning off the road, particularly when taking a sharp left turn from the main road coming from Glenfarne and turning up the Glenboy.
“Some minor works may be needed at this location, as the sudden drop is no longer visible and not as well protected as it was in the past,” Cllr Mitchell’s motion stated.
An official response confirmed that the Roads Department will assess the damage and identify repair options.
