Speed limits to be review in Leitrim next year

A Leitrim councillor has said he would like to see speed limit plates on the Dowra road moved to another location due to new developments in the area.

Cllr Enda McGloin asked Leitrim County Council to review the current position of the various speed limit signs on the Dowra
road, Drumshanbo to take into consideration new developments like the completion of housing developments and the reopening of the factory at the town entrance.

He was advised that the council is currently reviewing the urban speed limits within the towns and villages and proposed 30kph limits (similar to Carrick on Shannon) will be presented to the elected members for approval next year. Once this process is complete, the local authority will carry out a full review of all special speed limits.

The Dowra Road R207 has a 50/60 and 80kph zone which incorporates the existing development on this regional road.

Cllr McGloin continued: "It's about looking where those speed limits signs are placed and whether they should move from point A to point B. I think they need to be moved. I don't have a major issue with them but the points of where they are placed may be to be reviewed. I hoped that would be considered by the council."
