ALERT: More counties added to Met Eireann Warning as strong winds are forecast

A status yellow wind warning will be in place for Leitrim from 3am on Tuesday morning, through to 9pm that night. 

The national forecaster, Met Éireann has predicted strong winds and gales overnight and throughout Tuesday. 

It warns of very strong and gusty southerly winds with gales possible near coasts.

There is also an increased flood risk in coastal areas due to coincidence with very high spring tides.

Possible impacts include difficult travel conditions, flooding of low-lying coastal areas, wave overtopping, debris, loose objects displaced, outdoor events impacted.

Local authority crews across the country have been placed on standby and the Road Safety Authority is appealing to motorists to exercise caution if driving over the coming days.
