Do Not Consume notice lifted for Leitrim customers on Dowra water supply

The Do Not Consume notice on the Dowra Public Water Supply in Cavan, which had impacted areas of North Leitrim, has been lifted with immediate effect.

The notice had applied to customers in Annagh Upper, Eden, and Cornageeha in Leitrim, all of whom are supplied by the Dowra Public Water Supply.

Following consultation with the HSE, Uisce Éireann is advising all affected customers that their drinking water is now safe to consume as normal.

The Do Not Consume Notice was issued on October 20 due to elevated levels of iron and aluminium detected in the network.

In response, Uisce Éireann disconnected the Dowra Public Water Supply from the Group Water Scheme and connected it to the Uisce Éireann supply from the North Leitrim Regional Water Supply.

Sample testing in recent days has confirmed that the water is now fully compliant.

Peter Gallagher, Uisce Éireann Water Treatment Operations Manager, thanked local residents and businesses for their patience throughout the notice period.

“Uisce Éireann’s primary focus remains the protection of public health and we worked with our stakeholders to lift the notice as quickly as possible,” said Peter.

“We are grateful to customers, elected representatives, and the media for their assistance in sharing information on the Do Not Consume Notice.”

Customers can stay informed through Uisce Éireann’s multiple communication platforms and are encouraged to engage via their website.
