Heartfelt tributes are being paid to talented local musician John Charles Connon who passed away in recent days.
John Charles Connon, Ballinteer, Dublin /Carrick-on-Shannon/ Boyle, Roscommon died on December 8th, 2025 in the loving care of the staff in the Plunkett home, Boyle. John Charles, was predeceased by his wife Celine. He is sadly missed by his children John, Evan, Fiona, Dearbhail, June, and Sara, his grandchildren and extended family.
He will repose at The Heritage Centre, Chapel of Rest, Carrick on Shannon (N41 KP62) on Wednesday, December 10th, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Funeral mass on Thursday, December 11th in St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon at 1 pm, followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan at 3:30 pm.
Local photographer and musician David Knight paid a tribute: “Very sorry to hear this - many the songs and tunes he enjoyed with us for many years in Cryans on a Friday night. May you rest in peace John”.
“Our long-time friend John (RIP), was an amazing man who had done so much in his life. He was always good humoured with interesting stories and he enjoyed fun. He leaves behind many fond memories. Our condolences to his family,” another tribute said on RIP.ie.

“No doubt Bona Spres in the sky is waiting for us to tie on to! Loved arriving in Carrick and tying onto John's barge. A fountain of knowledge and great company in Cryans or any other establishment. Our deepest condolences to all his family. May he find a grand mooring,” another message of condolence read.
“Sincere sympathy to all the Connon family. We were blessed to have John's wide knowledge and ability in Carrick for a number of years,” another message of condolence read.
