Memories shared following the passing of ‘lovely, unassuming’ Leitrim woman

Tributes are being paid following the passing of a Leitrim woman described as a “lovely, unassuming lady.”

Winifred (Winnie) Gallagher (née Keaney) of Tullaghan passed away peacefully at Our Lady’s Hospital, Manorhamilton on Tuesday, December 9, surrounded by her loving family.

Winnie will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her sons and daughters Mary, Una, Ann, John, Seamus and Aideen; her sister-in-law Una; her cherished grandchildren Ciara, Cathal, Sean, Katie, Liam, Shea, Ronan, Jamie, Joey and Ruairi; as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family and wide circle of friends.

She is predeceased by her husband J.P., son Brendan, sisters Rose and Mary, and brothers Frank and John.

Condolences on RIP.ie recall warm memories of Winnie. One tribute reads, “I have lots of lovely memories of us growing up together in Kiltyclogher many years ago. May she rest in peace.”

Another remembers childhood days: “I recall so many wonderful childhood days spent playing All Ireland and FA Cup finals in the field next your house, with the warmest of welcomes always from Winnie and JP regardless of us imposing long into the evening and helping to eat them out of house and home. May she rest in peace.”

Winnie will repose on Thursday, December 11 from 5pm to 8pm in Our Lady’s Hospital Chapel, Manorhamilton. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, December 12 at 11am in St Aidan’s Church, Kinlough, followed by burial in St Aidan’s Cemetery.

Another condolence shared, “Many a happy hour was spent late at night with Winnie and JP calving cows in the byre behind the house.”

“I have great memories of going to school with her and growing up together in Kiltyclogher. May she now rest in peace,” reads another tribute.
