A new tradition is set to take its first steps in South Leitrim as the Drumreilly Community Camino prepares to open to the public for the very first time.
With the slogan “Walking through the heart of Leitrim,” this inaugural event is already generating excitement, not only for its scenic route but also for the strong sense of community spirit at its core.
The event, taking place over the 2026 May Bank Holiday, is being run as a fundraiser to support local groups, organisations, and clubs within the community. From youth initiatives and sports teams to social activities and community facilities, many vital services rely on continued local support.
The Camino will also be raising funds for North West STOP.
The Camino has been carefully planned with options of a 20km route or a 35km route to showcase the natural beauty and rich local heritage that define the Drumreilly area.

Participants will be encouraged to slow down and let nature set the pace, following routes that wind through quiet boreens, along lakeshores, across rolling green fields, and through peaceful pockets of woodland.
These paths reveal a quieter, more intimate side of Leitrim’s landscape, offering even lifelong residents the opportunity to experience familiar places from a fresh perspective.
Organisers aim to establish the Drumreilly Community Camino as an annual event, bringing people together year after year to celebrate everything that makes rural community life so special. By placing nature, connection, and shared experience at its centre, the Camino hopes to grow into a lasting tradition for the parish and surrounding areas.
Inclusivity is a key feature of the event. Designed to be accessible to walkers of all ages and fitness levels, the Camino extends an open invitation to families, individuals, old friends, and new neighbours alike.
The shared journey encourages conversation, reflection, and connection, allowing participants to enjoy the landscape at their own pace within the warm and welcoming atmosphere Drumreilly is known for.

The Camino will start and finish at Drumcoura City, home of Cowboys and Heroes, adding a lively social element to the day. Following the walk, participants are invited to stay on for an evening filled with great food, fun, and plenty of refreshments, making it a full day of community celebration.
Organisers say the Drumreilly Community Camino promises not just a scenic walk, but a day filled with pride, gratitude, and the simple joy of being part of something new and meaningful.
