Much-loved Keshcarrigan man remembered as a “true gentleman” following his peaceful passing on Sunday

Sadness at the passing of ‘wonderful character’ in South Leitrim

The death has occurred of David Houghton, of Letterfine, Keshcarrigan and formerly of Mossley Hill, Liverpool, England.

Dave passed away peacefully on Sunday, 14th December, surrounded by his family at St. Patrick's Community Hospital in Carrick-on-Shannon.

David was predeceased by his mother Marjorie, father Harry and brother Derek. He is survived by his loving family: his wife Angela; son Neal; daughter Liz; grandchildren Tori, Daniel and Sienna; his sister Margaret; brother-in-law Dave and their family; sister-in-law Mary; nieces Gill and Linda, their husbands and children; as well as neighbours and friends.

Dave enjoyed fishing and was a member of Ballinamore Golf Club. He is remembered by fellow members as someone who always had a smile for those he met and a genuine interest in their lives.

One tribute read: “We have great and beautiful memories of him in our golf club, from the game itself to the chats in the clubhouse. He was such a sincere and wonderful character.”

Another person who shared their condolences described Dave as “a true gentleman to all who knew him.”

Dave will repose in the chapel at St. Patrick's Community Hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon, on Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm.

A church service will take place at the Heritage Church on Wednesday at 12 noon, followed by cremation at Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan, at 3.15pm. Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
