HGVs are being damaged crossing bridges in south Leitrim
Heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) are being damaged crossing bridges in south Leitrim, members of the Ballinamore MD meeting heard this week.
Cllr Brendan Barry asked that Leitrim County Council carry out repairs to the road surface beside the bridge over Ballinamore/Ballyconnell canal near Northwest Tool Hire on the R209 and bridges over Aghacashlaun River and Yellow River on R208. The road has sunk at these locations and needs to be restored."
Cllr Barry said: "A lot of people are complaining that the cars are wobbling out or hitting the surface of the road when they hit the dip and a lot of HGVs are complaining about damage to shocks, springs and suspensions."

The response stated that Leitrim County Council have submitted an application for a Specific Improvement Grant from the department of transport for improvement works to the approaches to Kilclare Bridge on the R208 and will maintain the road surface as part of our O&M schedule.
The response concluded: "We can assess the approaches to the Aghachaslaun and Yellow River bridges and seek funding through the RIG process."
