Dry but freezing weather ahead for New Year's Eve in Leitrim

New Year's Eve will be a cold one in Leitrim, with freezing temperatures expected to retreat in the afternoon but return in the evening, with high temperatures of 4 degrees and lows of -4 heading into the night.

A mildly cloudy morning will give way to a bright afternoon before cloudy weather returns in the evening. There is a low chance of rain despite the clouds, according to Met Éireann.

Across Connacht, variable cloud and sunny spells today for New Year's Eve, with any frost and fog clearing through the morning. Generally dry too, apart from the chance of a little drizzle near coastal areas. Highest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees, with mostly light variable breezes, becoming westerly this afternoon.

Quite cloudy at first tonight with limited clear spells. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the north will gradually sink southwards through the night and become patchier by morning, with some showers and more in the way of clear spells following. Cold with lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees, with frost and icy stretches developing. Light to moderate westerly winds will increase, fresh at times along coasts.

New Year's Day is set to be dry, with good sunny spells for most tomorrow with just isolated light showers. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly winds, fresher near coasts.
