Ballinamore Ukulele group strikes a chord for women’s aid on Nollaig na Mban

A Ballinamore-based ukulele group has raised €1,140 for Women’s Aid following a successful fundraising gig held in the town over the weekend.

The Ballinamore Ukulele Group Singers (B.U.G.S.), which is run by local woman Susan Rowland, hosted the event at McGirls on Saturday night to mark Nollaig na mBan, combining live music with an important cause.

Speaking afterwards, Susan said the group was delighted with the turnout and the generosity shown on the night.

“We’re a local ukulele group that meets regularly here in Ballinamore, and we wanted to do something special to celebrate Nollaig na mBan while also supporting a really vital charity,” she said.

Guests were treated to complimentary welcome fizz and finger food on arrival, with funds raised through donations and a raffle on the night. Local businesses contributed prizes, helping to boost the final total.

“There was a fantastic atmosphere and a great crowd on the night,” Susan added. “We were blown away by the support from the community and from local businesses who donated raffle prizes.”

An iDonate page remains open for anyone who would still like to support the fundraiser.

“Women’s Aid does incredibly important work, and we’re very proud to be able to raise funds for them through music and community,” Susan said. “It really showed what a small local initiative can achieve when people come together.”

The event was described as a warm and uplifting celebration of Nollaig na mBan, highlighting Ballinamore’s strong sense of community while raising much-needed funds for Women’s Aid.
