Leitrim native and co-founder and former joint CEO of Social Justice Ireland, Sr Brigid Reynolds.
The funeral of Sister Brigid Reynolds, co-founder of Social Justice Ireland, has taken place in Leitrim.
Sister Brigid passed away on Saturday at St Vincent's Hospital. She was 82.
Born and raised in Mohill, Sister Brigid was educated at the Marist Convent in Carrick-on-Shannon before entering the Marist Sisters Religious Order. She later spent several years working in Nigeria as part of her religious and social justice mission.
Alongside Seán Healy, she co-founded Social Justice Ireland in 2009, an organisation that has played a significant role in shaping national debate on poverty, equality and economic justice. Both served as co-directors of the organisation until their retirement in 2023.
The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at St Mary’s Church today (Tuesday) at 12 noon. Burial took place afterwards in the Convent Cemetery.
Sister Brigid is remembered as a lifelong advocate for social justice, whose work had a lasting impact both locally and nationally.
