Concerns were raised regarding a junction onto a local road in Leitrim that is considered too narrow, making it potentially dangerous.
At January’s meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District, Cllr Paddy Farrell called on Leitrim County Council to seek funding to widen the entrance to the L-7481 at Killamaun off the R-201-8, stating that the entrance is “very narrow.”
He also added that when approaching from the Mohill direction, cars are driving “at speed,” and that the situation is “dangerous.”
District engineer Emma Donohoe confirmed that the junction could be added to future schemes.
A response from the Roads Department stated that a land take would also be required in order to widen the junction.

“Leitrim County Council can apply for a future Low Cost Safety scheme at this location. Please note the 2026 application for funding has already being submitted to the Department for consideration,” the reply stated.
