Mel McManus
Tributes have been paid after Mel McManus of Attyrory, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim, Formerly Drumsna, Co. Leitrim passed away on 9th February 2026 (peacefully) at home.
Pre-deceased by his parents Joe and Minnie, brothers Josie, Sean, Val and sister Patricia.
One tribute on RIP.ie read: "Having grown up with Mel in Drumsna and having spent a lot of time in his home there, I can vouch for him not having a bad bone in his body. As a young man, he was very sporty, yet always modest and never aggressive. Significant achievements in Mel's life, driven directly by his love of wife and family, were sometimes concealed in his relaxed friendliness and great sense of humour. I will miss his presence."
Mel will be remembered with love by his wife Mary, son Stephen, daughter Karina Phelan, son-in-law Hilary, Stephen’s partner Mairead, adored grandchildren Liam, Amy, Leigh and Conor, sisters Kitty and Ann, mother-in-law Kathleen Jones, sisters-in-law Eileen and Phyllis, brother-in-law Gerry, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and his many friends.

Another tribute read: "Our Deepest Sympathies to Mary, Karina, Stephen and Families on the sad passing of your beloved Mel… He was a lovely pleasant gentleman who always had time to chat."
A former neighbour penned: "Mel was a great neighbour and I very fond memories of his great humour and help to us over the years" while another wrote, "He was one of life's great characters".
Another comment read: "Mel was one of the funniest people I have ever met. A true gentleman, his wit and generosity of spirit will never be forgotten. I'm so happy I got to spend time in his company."
Mel will repose at St. Patrick’s Hospital Chapel, Carrick-on-Shannon on Wednesday 11th February from 4 o’ clock until 6 o’ clock followed by removal to St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon arriving at 7 o’clock.
Mass of Christian burial on Thursday 12th at 12 o’clock in St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carrick-on-Shannon.
