Dinner, speeches and dancing with Barry Owen set for February 28 celebration

Leitrim Association London Prepares for 69th Annual Dinner Dance

The Leitrim Association London will host its 69th Annual Dinner Dance on Saturday, February 28, at the Clayton Hotel Chiswick, 626 Chiswick High Road, London W4 5RY.

The popular annual event is one of the highlights of the social calendar for Leitrim people living in Britain and is expected to attract a large gathering from across London and neighbouring counties.

Proceedings will begin at 7pm, with guests seated for dinner at 7.30pm. Following dinner and a number of short speeches, legendary entertainer Barry Owen will take to the stage, ensuring a lively night of music and dancing.

Tickets, priced at £55, are available from Chris O’Hara (07733 008656), Eileen Poh (07791 906340), Michael Curry (07989 245077), and Regina Reid (07977 413066).

The dinner dance is traditionally well supported by the Leitrim diaspora in London and surrounding areas, with exiles travelling from all parts of the county to attend. In particular, strong representation is expected from north Leitrim, including Manorhamilton and Kinlough, as well as from Carrick-on-Shannon, Ballinamore, and other areas in the south of the county.

The annual gathering provides an opportunity for Leitrim natives abroad to reconnect with friends, celebrate their roots, and enjoy an evening of entertainment in a warm and welcoming setting.

Copies of The Leitrim Guardian will be available to purchase on the night at the special price of £10. The latest edition includes three pages of photographs from last year’s London Dinner Dance and continues the publication’s long tradition, having been produced annually since 1968.

This year’s issue runs to more than 140 pages and features a wide range of articles, photographs, historical pieces, sporting coverage, and community news from across the county.

Among the highlights are features on Carrick-on-Shannon’s success in winning Ireland’s Tidiest Town award, 90 years of dancing at the Ballroom of Romance in Glenfarne, the Tullaghan–Leitrim coastline, the Mohill Gathering, Keeldra Lake in Cloone, and the history of Manorhamilton Agricultural Show.

Other articles explore the Aughavas Pipe Band from 1954 to 1967, Ballinamore Athletic Club’s 60th anniversary, Dromahair’s folklore and history, Bonfire Night in Drumsna, and what the 1901 census reveals about life in Drumshanbo.

For further information, interested parties are advised to contact the ticket sellers listed above or visit the Leitrim Association London.
