Leitrim’s most popular baby names revealed as CSO publishes 2025 figures

Jack and Rían lead the boys’ names in Leitrim for 2025, while Amelia, Katie and Saoirse prove most popular for girls, according to the latest CSO figures.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) released the most popular baby names in the country for 2025 on February 27.

In Leitrim, the most popular boys’ names were Jack and Rían, while the most popular girls’ names were Amelia, Katie and Saoirse.

Across the north west, Jack continued to be a popular choice in Sligo and Leitrim, while the most popular boys’ name in Donegal was Noah, and Páidí topped the list in Longford.

Emily and Grace were the most popular girls’ names in Sligo, Grace was the top choice in Donegal, while Sadie was the most popular girls’ name in Longford.

At a national level, the top five most popular boys’ names were Rían, Jack, Noah, James and Oisín. For girls, the top five were Lily, Éabha, Fiadh, Grace and Sadie.

According to the CSO findings, Jack relinquished its number one position after holding the top spot for eight consecutive years, dropping one place to second in 2025. 

Noah fell from second place in 2024 to third in 2025, but continues to be a strong favourite, having featured in the top ten boys’ names chosen every year since 2013.

This year, Lily emerged as the most popular girls’ name nationally, rising from sixth place in 2024 to first place in 2025, marking the first time it has ever held the top position in the Baby Names rankings. Éabha retained second place in 2025.

Last year, the CSO found that the most popular boys’ name in Leitrim was Jack, while Croía was the most popular girls’ name.
