The cost of 'everyday essentials can quickly add up'- Leitrim locals called to donate food
Tesco, alongside its charitable partners FoodCloud, the Family Resource Centre Network and local voluntary organisation Breffini FRC, is encouraging Leitrim shoppers to help in a simple but meaningful way: by donating just one item of non‑perishable food during their weekly shop.

This Easter, Tesco Ireland is asking customers across Leitrim to help support families in their community by taking part in the Stronger Starts Easter Food Collection, running from Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th March in larger Tesco stores.
While Christmas is often seen as the most challenging time of year, Easter can also bring added pressure for many families. The cost of meals, school holidays and everyday essentials can quickly add up - and for some, it means making difficult choices.
That’s why Tesco, alongside its charitable partners FoodCloud, the Family Resource Centre Network and local voluntary organisation Breffini FRC, is encouraging Leitrim shoppers to help in a simple but meaningful way: by donating just one item of non‑perishable food during their weekly shop.
Customers are invited to pick up just one extra cupboard staple such as pasta, rice, porridge or tinned food and place it in the donation trolley at the front of participating Tesco stores. Volunteers from local community groups will be on hand throughout the weekend to collect donations and ensure they reach families who need them most.
To make every act of kindness go even further, Tesco will top up all customer donations by an additional 20%.
Thanks to the generosity of customers and colleagues, Tesco Ireland food collections have facilitated the donation over €3 million worth of food since 2013, helping to provide more than 2.4 million meals to children and families across Ireland. Last year alone, over €400,000 worth of food was donated - proof that small actions really can make a big difference.
Deirdre Corrigan, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Tesco Ireland, said:
“Easter can be a difficult time for many families, and even the smallest gesture can help ease that pressure. By adding just one extra item to your shop, you can help support children and families in your local community. Through Stronger Starts, we’re proud to work alongside our customers and charity partners to help make everyday life a little easier for those who need it most.”
The Easter Food Collection is part of Tesco’s wider Stronger Starts programme, which also provides free fresh food to children in up to 320 DEIS primary schools during term time, helping families put healthy meals on the table.
Sometimes, helping really is as simple as one extra item.
