Companies in Leitrim are paying thousands more in fuel bills as the price of diesel continues to spiral

Leitrim company sees two-week bill for diesel jump by €2000 as crisis deepens

Green diesel prices are continuing to rise

Leitrim company has seen it's fuel costs rise by 2000 on two weeks worth of diesel, a Drumshanbo councillor told the Leitrim Observer this week.

While recently Gardaí confirmed that they received a report of home heating oil being stolen from a residence in the Drumcong/Drumshanbo area, it's the rising cost of fuel at the pumps that is most concerning locals, Cllr Brendan Barry told us.

Cllr Barry said: "Agricultural diesel is a huge one, where there are businesses that are buying a lot of fuel every week. Luckily, due to the time of year, the demand for home heating oil is starting to cool off a bit. People might have a certain amount of oil in their tanks and hope that whenever they do have to refill them, the prices may have come back to some sort of normality."

However, concerns over the soaring price of diesel remain. "There are contractors who have said that their fuels bills have gone up over 2000 per fortnight. Another company with buses; their weekly bill has gone up by 500. I was pricing green diesel myself today and it's gone up by about €600 in two or three weeks for 1,000 litres. It went up last night and they are talking about it going up again tonight. It's just gone crazy."
