RIP: 'Magnificent character' remembered fondly following his sudden passing

The death has occurred of Paul Kelleher of Dún Carraig Céibh, Leitrim Village, and formerly Shankill, Elphin, Co. Roscommon.

Paul, who passed away suddenly on Monday, is survived by his loving wife, Shauna and adored children, Cara and Tadhg.

He will be missed by his wide family, including his parents, Noeline and Pat Kelleher, brothers David and Robert (Ellen), parents-in-law Linda and Sean Duignan, brother-in-law Peter (Sinéad), sister-in-law Lorna (James), nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives, loyal companion Cooper, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Condolences have flooded in for Paul, who is remembered as a positive, bubbly person and someone who left a positive mark on those he met.

 “Paul would always greet people with a big smile, and his kindness radiated from him instantly!” said one condolence message.

Another said: “Paul was such a genuinely good person — kind, warm, and someone who made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.”

He is also remembered as a man of many talents, a devoted sportsman, and someone who was a joy in company.

“So devastated to hear of Paul’s sudden passing. I remember Paul as a great team mate for Elphin GAA who gave his all for the jersey and travelled back from Scotland to play games.

Paul was a man for all seasons who could converse on any topic and had a wide array of friends from all walks of life. A great conversationalist with a very natural warmth. He was the finest of company and had the head up for fun at all times. 

A brilliant guitarist and singer - many’s a party he got going, and kept them going.”

Another message described him as “ A magnificent character whom we had many a chat, laugh, craic with and a bit of golf and beers too!” Adding “He will be deeply missed by us all.”

He will repose at The Heritage Centre, Chapel of Rest, Church Lane, Carrick-on-Shannon (N41 KP62) on Friday, 27th March from 4pm until 7:30pm. There will be a fifteen-minute break at 5:30pm.

Mass of Christian burial will take place in St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon, on Saturday, 28th March at 11:30 o’clock, followed by private cremation.

For those who can not attend the Funeral Mass, it will be streamed live online.

The family house will remain strictly private at all times, and no flowers will be placed by the family's request.
