Trad takes over Carrigallen this April for Leitrim Fleadh Cheoil 2026

Carrigallen is set to come alive this spring as it hosts the 2026 Leitrim County Fleadh Cheoil, promising a vibrant weekend of traditional Irish music, culture and community spirit from April 17 to 19.

Organised under the banner of Ceol Alainn CCÉ, the annual Fleadh will bring together musicians, dancers, singers and enthusiasts from across Leitrim and beyond for what is expected to be one of the highlights of the county’s cultural calendar.

A packed programme of events is planned, with competitions, lively music sessions and entertainment taking place throughout the weekend. From early morning competitions to late-night sessions in local venues, the town will resonate with the unmistakable sound of traditional Irish music at every turn.

Among the highlights will be an Under-18 Open Busking Competition taking place on Sunday, April 19 on Main Street, Carrigallen, bringing live music directly onto the streets. Registration will take place at Mitchell’s Bar and Restaurant at 3pm, with the competition getting underway at 3.30pm.

The event is expected to attract talented young musicians from across the region, with prizes of €300 for first place, €200 for second and €100 for third, and an entry fee of €10 per group. Organisers are encouraging young performers to take part and showcase their talent in what promises to be one of the most lively and engaging elements of the weekend.

The Fleadh has long been a cornerstone of Irish cultural life, offering performers of all ages a chance to showcase their talents while keeping traditions alive for future generations. Young musicians will compete alongside seasoned performers, creating a dynamic and intergenerational celebration of Irish heritage.

Local businesses and community groups are also expected to play a central role, with cafés, pubs and public spaces transforming into hubs of music and social connection. The event is anticipated to provide a welcome boost to the local economy, drawing visitors from across the region.

Visitors can expect Carrigallen to be buzzing with activity, as locals and tourists alike soak up the atmosphere and enjoy what organisers promise will be a weekend full of energy, creativity and “great craic.”

Whether competing, supporting participants or simply taking in the sounds of fiddles, flutes and bodhráns, the Fleadh offers something for everyone.

The event is supported by Leitrim CCÉ, Leitrim County Council and Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands initiative, highlighting the region as a key destination for cultural tourism.

With its rich musical heritage and welcoming community, Carrigallen is poised to deliver a memorable Fleadh weekend that celebrates the very best of Irish tradition.
