A brand new playground situated along Leitrim’s only stretch of coastline has been opened.
Leitrim County Council has announced the launch of its new state-of-the-art playground in Tullaghan, complemented by a biodiversity planting area.
The playground is located along the Access to the Sea walkway, which was completed in 2023.
“This fantastic project simply would not have been possible without the hard work, commitment, and determination of the Tullaghan Development Association, whose vision helped bring this amenity to the community,” a spokesperson from Leitrim County Council said in a post on social media.
The playground and planting project was supported through funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, the Department of Children, Disability and Equality, Sport Ireland and Leitrim County Council.

Last May, over €19,000 in funding was allocated towards the Tullaghan playground under the 2025 Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation to develop an inclusive, accessible and sensory hub playground.
Local councillor Justin Warnock, who helped deliver the project over a number of years, has welcomed its opening, noting the benefits it will bring for young families in the area.
“It’s all fallen into place now. It is brilliant because you have people coming down there with young children to walk and now there is something else to do,” he said.
“It’s a good story and it’s great for the local community as there’s a lot of children in the Tullaghan area, it’s great for young families,” added Cllr Warnock.
An official opening event for the playground will take place in May.
