Sadness has been expressed by members of the Ballinamore community following the closure of The Flower Shop on March 31 after seven months serving customers on High Street.

Sadness in Leitrim as flower shop closes after seven months in business

A business in Ballinamore has closed its doors after seven months of trading due to circumstances the owners say they are “not yet in a position to discuss.”

The Flower Shop in Ballinamore opened on High Street in August 2025 and ceased trading on Tuesday, March 31.

An announcement detailing the difficult decision to cease operations was shared on the shop’s Facebook page by owner Paula. “We opened our shop with great excitement and to integrate positively into the community. We sincerely thank every single person who supported us, we set out to provide a service and supply excellent flowers and value for money, our customers must agree we did exactly that,” wrote Paula.

She explained how the business had been part of many important moments in customers’ lives, including birthdays, new babies, anniversaries, engagements and Mother’s Day celebrations. “We loved being part of it and we again thank all of you who called to our shop or phoned us for orders,” she said.

“Since we opened we were asked to create floral tributes for grieving families, we were honoured to do so, the saddest of times for people. We again send sincere condolences to all those who trusted us to create those floral tributes.”

Paula also thanked fellow traders in Ballinamore for their support and encouragement, as well as staff members Gill and Fiona, whom she described as “the dream team.”

“Ballinamore had a great flower shop with top class florists whose creativity was second to none. Gill the best florist ever whose loyalty, support and friendship has never wavered,” wrote Paula.

“Fiona whose particular set of skills became sharper as she looked for our delivery addresses. She found them. She delivered those flowers, her friendship and loyalty also never wavered,” she added.

“We would like to make clear the change of ownership in respect of the building is not the reason as to why we ceased trading on Ballinamore High St,” said Paula, adding that the business will take time to regroup while continuing to honour existing orders and deliveries.

“We will retain our telephone number and provide a delivery service until decisions regarding our future,” Paula concluded.

An outpouring of messages from members of the local community expressed both appreciation for the service provided and sadness at the closure.

“This is such sad sad news. It was a pleasure to walk past your shop and see how wonderful your window display lifted my heart for every occasion,” one person commented.

“Genuinely gutted to see you go. Ah this one really hits. It was never just a shop, it was a place you’d go in for a quick stop and come out after a proper chat and a few laughs. There was always a warmth to it that you don’t find everywhere. It’s going to leave a real gap in the town,” said another.

“This is sad to read your heartache. And what a loss to all. Your creativity and energy will carry you through - keep the faith in whatever you do. Thank you,” another wrote.
