John Louis represented Eslin GAA as a player and served in numerous officer roles. As a mark of respect, the club postponed all activities until further notice.

Many shared memories on RIP.ie. One wrote, “I had the pleasure of playing football with him and indeed against him many moons ago, and a knacky corner forward he was. He was one of nature’s true gentlemen, and it was always a pleasure to meet him and chat about things old and new.”

John Louis also served as chair of Eslin Community Centre. The centre’s association wrote on RIP.ie:

“John Louis was the chairperson of Eslin Community Centre for many years and made an immeasurable contribution to its development.
