Leitrim to come alive this weekend with Dance festival

Leitrim to host dance festival this weekend as events to take place across the county 9th and 12th of April

The Leitrim Dance Festival will take place this weekend with events across the county.

The event will take place across the weekend with an array of performances, cultural events, and workshops planned in Leitrim.

THURSDAY 

  • A free Meitheal will take place at the Market with musicians and dancers from 10.30 am to 12 pm.
  • Dancing session at Cryan’s Teach Ceoil from 9 pm.

Friday

  • On Friday night, there will be Music and dance performances on the streets of Carrick-on-Shannon between 2 pm and 8 pm, with open floor outdoor sessions included. 
  • The Dock theatre will host a dance event, Dance Dialectics, featuring performances from 16 artists.
  • There will also be a Free dance session from 9 pm at Cryan’s Teach Ceoil.

SATURDAY 

  • A demonstration on how to make your own set of wooden taps from artist and carpenter Charlie Perpoil, 10 and 1 pm at his studio at Drumcoura, Co. Leitrim. 
  • Workshop with Joe McGuiggan in Old Style Irish Step Dance at The Dock, Carrick on Shannon, between 10 and 12.30 pm.
  • Music and dance performances on the streets of Carrick on Shannon, with an open floor outdoor session between 11 am and 3 pm.
  • Free event, Miss Mary, an Irish tradition which no longer exists, at The Market Yard, Carrick on Shannon, at 1 pm. The event is an outdoor solo dance, created and performed by Kristyn Fontanella, who traces the footsteps of migrating Irish dance masters. Embodying the land and its stories, she arrives at a gathering of people and invites them to exchange and listen.  
  • Workshop with Christy Mac Gearailt in West Kerry Set Dancing at The Dock, Carrick on Shannon, between 1.30 and 4 pm.
  • Ball nights at The Dock theatre in Carrick on Shannon from 8 pm, an Irish traditional arts and culture passed down through generations.
  • Dance session at Cryan’s Teach Ceoil from 9 pm.

SUNDAY 

  • KITTY’S GONE A MILKIN, a musical event, outdoor but under a roof at a secret location, 15 mins from Carrick on Shannon. Featuring musical and dance performances from Caitlín Nic Gabhann & Ciarán Ó Maonaigh; Becky Ní Éalaithe & Cathal Ó Curráin; Edwina Guckian & David Munnelly.
