Lighting in an estate in Aughamore will be addressed in the coming weeks, with a drainage issue already resolved, but confirmation has also been given that there are no plans to complete a footpath.
At April’s meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District, Cllr Maeve Reynolds asked the District Engineer to prioritise improvement works at The Village housing estate, including resolving the ongoing surface water drainage issue at the L3467/N4 junction; clearing and reinstating roadside verges to improve sightlines; completing the provision of existing public lighting infrastructure; and upgrading broken border fencing.
A reply confirmed that the Council carried out land cuts along the N4 last week, which should resolve drainage issues at this location.
The two lighting columns which have no lighting heads on them will be assessed and completed using Public Lighting Maintenance funding when resources allow.

Cllr Reynolds welcomed confirmation that drainage works have been completed and that lighting will be addressed.
District Engineer Emma Donohoe also noted that the Council can cut 70 metres of hedges at junctions during hedge-cutting season, but ultimately responsibility remains with the landowner.
Cllr Sean McGowan seconded the motion, adding that residents of The Village estate have been seeking a short footpath from the estate.
“They’re also looking for a short footpath from that estate right up to the top of the hill about 100 metres or less just to finish off the estate,” added Cllr McGowan.

Ms Donohoe confirmed that the Council had explored numerous times securing funding under Active Travel, but there were no funding options available there, and that land take would be required to complete the footpath.
Cllr McGowan asked that the proposal be kept in mind should a future funding opportunity become available.
