Workshops planned to clarify timeline for taking in charge of Leitrim estates

Workshops planned for May aim to clarify progress on Leitrim housing estates awaiting taking in charge, after councillors raised concerns about years of delays and inaccurate timelines given to residents.

Workshops planned to clarify timeline for taking in charge of Leitrim estates

Residents of several estates in North Leitrim are growing increasingly frustrated with the changing timelines for when their estates will be taken in charge, a meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District has heard.

At April’s meeting, Cllr Mary Bohan asked Leitrim County Council for an update on the current position regarding the taking in charge of estates in the Manorhamilton MD.

“I’m inundated with calls from various estates and this is going back for years. We were given dates and told it would be Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, and then it didn’t happen and it still hasn’t happened,” she explained.

It was confirmed that a significant internal review process in relation to taking-in-charge capital costs is nearing completion.

Workshops will be arranged in May for each of the three municipal districts, during which officials from the Planning Department, accompanied by a member of the Senior Leadership Team, will outline the position regarding the taking in charge of housing developments across the county and the undertaking of any necessary works once they are taken in charge.

Cllr Bohan commented that she hopes the workshop will provide as accurate a report as possible on all of the estates.

“All of the information I've given people prior to this, the timelines have been way off and some of them haven’t been met at all. If we’re giving information out to the public you’d hope that it would be as accurate as possible,” she said.

“In some cases there has been a lag of a couple of years. I know things come up that cause changes but it’s been way off the mark,” Cllr Bohan concluded.
