Driving licence

Judge Sandra Murphy decided to give a young man a chance to get his full licence at Manorhamilton District Court last week.

Brion O’Donohue, Dromore, Dromahair was charged with no insurance, no driver's licence and no tax at Adrakip Beg, Dromahair on April 5, 2022.
Mr O’Donohue represented himself at Manorhamilton court, the case had been previously adjourned to see if the vehicle had been back taxed, as it had been crushed since he was stopped by Gardai.

Sgt Lisa Sewell told the court it had not been back taxed, there was a €400 loss to the State.
The defendant had no previous convictions and was driving on a learner's permit with no qualified adult in the car at the time of the offences. Mr O’Donohue said he does have a car now and he plans to do driving lessons and “get on the road” soon. He explained he is a 24-year-old Forestry Contractor. Judge Sandra Murphy decided to put back the case to allow the defendant to get his full driver's licence and insurance, she adjourned the case to February 8, 2023.
Mr O’Donohue undertook not to drive the car until he has all his documents in order.
The judge concluded, “if you drive I will deal with it in a very different way.”
