Shower and toilet facilities needed at Tullaghan

Tullaghan's Wild Atlantic Way coastal run/walk

The village of Tullaghan is on Leitrim's coast.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Justin Warnock has asked that Leitrim County Council consider the provision of toilet and shower facilities at the new car park established at Tullaghan's public access to the sea. Addressing the recent Manorhamilton MD meeting, Cllr Warnock said that the numbers using this access to the sea “is growing” adding that the amount of “surfers using it is unbelievable.”
He also pointed out that families use this access way and “it would be nice if people didn’t have to leave because there is no toilet”.

Cllr Warnock said he didn’t believe it would be a big investment as the sewerage pumping station was located nearby and the shower facilities did not need to be enclosed - “just a quick rinse off external shower”.
His motion received unanimous support from cross party colleagues with Cllr Padraig Fallon noting that from a “tourism perspective this area is growing in popularity with surfers in particular.
“For me it is a no-brainer”.

Leitrim County Council noted that there is no proposal to provide these facilities at this location and stated additional funding would have to be found to do so.
Leitrim County Council is constructing a public car park and a public access route with a road and a footpath to the coastline from Tullaghan Village. There are also plans for a picnic and biodiversity area.
