Councillor Sean McGowan asked what steps could be taken by the Council to prevent the parking of cars along the L-1600, in front of Reynolds’ and Faughnan houses on the left-hand side as you approach Dromod Railway Station from the roundabout.
In a reply to his motion at the December meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District, Cllr McGowan was told the issue has risen once paid parking was introduced by Irish Rail to their car park at the railway station in Dromod.
“It appears cars are now avoiding payment by parking along the L-1600 at Dromod.
“Unfortunately, cars are entitled to park along this section of urban road once they do not cause a traffic issue or block exit or entrance to a dwelling.
“To avoid this situation, a footpath could be constructed along this section of public road to link the railway station to the GAA grounds and shop.
“We will investigate whether this solution could fit into the active travel regime of funding.
“Parking on any public footpath is in breach of the roads traffic act,” the reply concluded.
