16 clubs in Leitrim are to share out €1.1 million in sports capital funding announced this morning by the Government.
Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin T.D. and Minister of State for the Gaeltacht and Sport, Jack Chambers T.D., today, Friday, announced an overall package of €150 million in new capital grants under the latest round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme (SCEP). €144 million is allocated to almost 1,900 applications with €6 million kept in reserve for successful appeals lodged by unsuccessful applicants.
Minister of State, Frank Feighan has warmly welcomed the announcment for Leitrim.
“In Leitrim 16 Clubs will receive over €1.1m under the scheme which I am sure will have a huge impact on the development of their facilities ensuring greater participation among young people in sport.
"As Minister of State with responsibility for Healthy Ireland I wish to emphasise how important exercise is, Sport is crucial for all communities in Ireland. There was a record number of applications for these grants and the government responded with the most significant level of individual awards ever.
“So, this is a great day for sports clubs and community groups right around Leitrim and I want to congratulate all of the successful applicants.
“It has been a tough two years for many sports clubs, but the pandemic really demonstrated the importance of sport for our collective wellbeing.
“I want to thank all of the volunteers associated with these clubs across Co Leitrim for their tireless work and their commitment to improving their facilities to benefit all members.”
“In conclusion I wish to thank Ministers Chambers, Martin and Mc Grath for their record allocation of funding to facilitate some great improvements in our local sports facilities across the region” concluded Minister Feighan.

Cloone Tidy Towns Committee - Bóthar na Naomh Toilet and change facilities €22,493
Dromahair Arts & Recreation Centre - Upgrade of 'Community Football Field' €123,203
Drumkeerin GAA - Dressing rooms, meeting rooms & press facilities €148,500
Eslin GAA - Pitch, track development and gym kit out €118,140
Gortletteragh GAA - Walkway, 530m safety fence & ball stop nets €39,008
Manorhamilton Community Tennis - New Surface to Tennis Courts €35,000
Manorhamilton Rangers Football Club - Ball stop Netting €9,228
