Danny Morrison to launch latest book in Ballinamore

Celebrated author and former Sinn Féin spokesperson, Danny Morrison will launch his latest book in Ballinamore this month. The Belfast-based writer is a regular political commentator in newspapers, on television and radio.
A former chairperson of Belfast community festival, Féile an Phobail, Morrison has been anxious to conduct his book launches in community settings around the country.
The Leitrim launch of Morrison’s 'Free Statism & the Good Old IRA' will be chaired by former Leitrim County Librarian, Seán Ó Súilleabháin, himself a published author and historian.
The event takes place at the Island Theatre, Ballinamore at 8pm on Tuesday, February 22 with organisers saying everyone is welcome.
Sean explained “His latest publication examines how the division of Ireland led to the development of a partitionist mindset in politics and culture in the South. This has been sustained by official myths about the foundation of the state, the nature of Ireland’s independence struggle and attitudes to northern republicans.
“Morrison sets out to explain how we have got to the point where the Irish Government appears reluctant to plan for Irish unity and where television maps of Ireland create an imaginary coastline between Louth and Donegal.”
