There are currently 13 unoccupied local authority houses in the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District.
Six of the unoccupied houses have 3 bedrooms and four have 2 bedrooms.
There is just one house with 1 bedroom, one 4 bedroom house and one 5 bedroom house awaiting new tenants.
There are currently 97 households on the waiting list for houses in the Carrick area, excluding HAP and Transfers.
There are 190 households including Transfers and HAP recipients.
The local authority said there is an average turnaround of 17.8 weeks for vacant properties in this district - which is over four months.
Cllr Finola Armstrong McGuire requested the information, she said “people are genuinely searching for a safe space out of the current rat race.”
She said she has been told that many local authority houses are lying vacant for months and asked for speed during this tough housing climate.
The town councilor said she understood that this is a “nervous time” for families.
Leitrim County Council said they will support any family who presents as homeless through providing
emergency accommodation and will work with DVAS in sourcing suitable emergency accommodation.
